slow motion to flow

Yesterday after coming out of gym, I saw a group of people dressed in white, doing a rythmic movement of of bending to the left and crossing the right leg from behind ..switching back and forth this way and then lifting the right leg up into the air and just turning over. I would not have noticed it so much if I did not recognise what this conccerted movemets so slow in practice become like an unstoppable flow of movements when done to the music of hand-dealt drums. What was going on was a practice session of African dance which was done at a new student orientation at the college.

broken lyrics

Today my boss was away with everybody's knowledge, what with his relaying of information about the precise moment of his absence. My cubicle mate was away too on some training. I was reminded of a song I used to hear repeatedly 3 years ago, when i was working alone on weekends. I cant recall the lyrics. It was something about a very sad state of affairs in a poor man's life.. his broken sink/kitchen. Not any famous song. I am afraid, I will neve rknow the name of the song. I was searching on the net for it. It suddenly seized my interest, that if you actually let, you could go crazy about lyrics. The beauty of a short piece is in its wholesomeness.

Salsa all the way...

Let me salsa

My friend and I , set out for a fun time. She looked at my sneakers and screamed at me. 'Sneakers not allowed!'. Suddenly it came
to me, like voices from the past. We were going to a dance club and that was a no-no. We hurried back and made amendments and waited for the bus eagerly. We didnt have to look around like lost sheep to be located by the shepherd, as we had already surveyed the ground. once there, I just showed off my little- dangerous knowledge of tyres parked wrong, to kill the time spent in waiting for the ticket counter to open. Once we were let in, I felt like we were in a dark den, until we saw the instructor practicing her lessons for the class. the dance seemed so lively.
She asked all the students to stand in a line, and showed us the basic step. hmm.. easy I thought. I saw that famous step in many dances, and as I recalled it into action.. the instructor just replied to what was going on in my mind. How did the two count step turn into the three count step. When I learnt it earlier, i seemed to have not noticed the importance of the third tap and this has cost me more than missed steps and instructions from partners too.
the next step, was twirl and then crossbow. Till here it was algebra. and then whatever happened next was all really latin to me.
All I remember form then on, is one of the partners morphing into a scholarly guy making a fun dance into a science of twirls measuring to one and athird count and such ununderstandable jargon, which could only be suppressed by faking of comprehension.
And towards the cool-off time, I saw my friend dancing, she seemed like a doll gliding so smoothly, with ease . The steps which seemed so simple when learnt discretely seemed so like part of a meticulouslyly woven lace work.

How small is the world?

Six degrees of Separation

Tiles and Tables

Mah Jong

While reading 'The Joy Luck Club' by 'Amy Tan', when I came across a character having to replace the 'fourth corner' of a 'Mah Jong' Table, I saw it as just some table where these families gathered for potluck. As the story went, words like 'tiles' got associated with this table, which got me jumbling tiles and table in my head. It actually turns out to be a game.

Did you know of AP photos?

Long Life

When you make noodles do you break them into two, like I feel, I have seen in the two minutes 'Maggi' ad. How does it matter? It does according to certain beliefs. In Chinese tradition, Long noodles symbolise long life. No wonder, there is a noodle company which goes by the name of 'Long Life'. Long Live the noodles . Cant think of students life without it, atleast during the final weeks of the semester.
