Mapping

Thomas P Huber compares a place in Colorado to Provence. In terms of landscape consisting of mountains and rivers, how the land is used, food and wine, hiking.

Quotes by anonymous

In I Never Promised You a Goodie Bag: A Memoir of a Life Through Events--the Ones You Plan and the Ones You Don't there's a quote:

We do not think our way into new
action, we act our way into new thought
                                          -ANONYMOUS

When I read a quote I like, I try to find out about the writer like many of us. So a quote by an anonymous is such a bummer. On the contrary the good thing is you dont run the risk of misquoting.

Candles and cake

Yesterday I saw a 'Too many candles and too little cake' balloon.
There are many books with cake in their title.

Anna Quindlen's title makes more sense after reading what the balloon says.

Self timed camera

At the Grand Canyon entrance, we waited in line to take  a picture.  I saw  lady with an ipad sort of a device in a red jacket with a keypad hanging down. I went closer to take a look at it. It occurred to me ask to take a photo of her and her partner. She was glad when I asked. Next in line was a group of four, the main man unhappy for the time being taken by the previous group, inorganically put the camera self timed and went and joined the picture (He propped it on something, I need to see if that was his or was it there always?). There is always a good camaraderie floating around tourists with people asking and offering for pictures to be taken.
At the Hermit's rest, we saw a huge raven, which did not mind being very close to people. Closer to the Bright angel trail, a squirrel lay on the parapet wall not scared by people trying to get it to reach for them.

What I like about jacaranda

When they bloom its like something new has been planted there. Now I think of four places that I know will be live now with the flowers of jacaranda. At school, old apartment, on the way to library, on the way to Costco.

lladro figurine

I heard some chatter of birds on Friday. I asked my husband about it. He thought it was something from the bushes. Today I heard it again near the parking shed. It was right above in between the bars. I saw a tiny mouth of a bird crying out for food. The mother bird is constantly flying around to keep the birdies satiated.

Just around there are large cherry blossom trees.

Driving into Sedona, I thought that the mac D was right around the first circle, but there was empty space for a while. I thought I remembered wrong of being on the right road. some  blocks later, it was familiar turf. How memory squeezes empty space, so it can fill the head with the buildings.

Sacred water

There's Zam Zam grocery store. My husband knew the story of Zamzam Well.
While reading The tea and sage poem, I came across Hagar which summarised the story of zamzam.

We had soggy samosas, huge Paratha roll with good serving of tandoori chicken (while ordering this I mistook it for stuffed paratha) , chicken tikka masala with its sauce that tastes like pickle, Sindhi biryani with goat (The bones looked like such wide, hollow that you could shove pencils through it. They looked like bangles worn by the lambada reibe in AndhraPradesh) from there.

At a recent party, we didnt even have to open a Coke and Sprite bottle. They traveled to another party too but still came back. Everyone's sticking to water.
Pepsi at some point owned Wilson Sporting Goods and Coca Cola owned Columbia Pictures. At first I was surprised to know that they would have interests in such companies different from them but it makes sense that sports events and movies are venues where crowds enjoy soft drinks.

Inside a skyscraper

The book is  a pictorial gem. All the concepts are shown in pictures. Beginning with a cross section of a base of a tall building, digging, all the equipment needed, skilled workers involved in the whole process are all shown in easily understandable figures.
The section of Elevators with new algorithms, energy generators during descent are all interesting to learn of.

Art at Safeway

Yesterday while shopping, at the entrance where usually our eye lands on fruits on sale, it was a life size cow from The Art of Dairy contest. There were signs on all sides with 'no touching the cow'. There was a cordon too as a way of psychological fencing and still a guy touched the right ear of the cow. What was he expecting 'I am Roxie' like when you touch the ear of My Rocking Simba ?

All things birdy

Methuselah

when the author Julie Zickefoose writes about the brains of Carolina wrens being bigger than that of sparrows, I am reminded of last night's dream/mare, where I saw my brain.
By noting the time the eggs of a bird take to hatch from the birds books and comparing them with the specimens in her garage, she turns her house into a science lab.

The author compares the behaviours of different kinds of birds. With regards to Fecal sac, she explains how chimney swifts young defecate in a style different from the birds that are in open-cup nests. While pointing out these differences, she also explains the motivation for the other birds to remove the tracks of diaper activity to keep predators away.
